ASLIA(National) Executive Committee
The ASLIA National Executive Committee are elected by ASLIA members and hold office for a period of two years. The committee is comprised of professional practitioners from most states and territories across Australia.
All executive members have NAATI Professional Interpreter (formerly level 3) accreditation and have opted in to the NAATI Revalidation Process. Individuals are elected on merit, not to represent their home state/territory at national level; nor do they represent ASLIA National at the state/territory level.
All Executive Committee members work on a voluntary basis.
President: Marcel Leneham

Qualifications: BA(Hons); Postgraduate Diploma of Education; MA(Translation & Interpreting); Cert IV Workplace Assessment & Training; currently completing PhD.
Professional work interests: translation, educational interpreting, theatre interpreting, sign-singing.
Personal interests: Art, theatre, cooking, travel.
Vice-President: Karin Fayd'herbe

Karin resides in Cairns, Far North Queensland and joined the National Executive Committee in 2004. She has practised as an interpreter since 1988.
Qualifications held: MA., B.Ed., B. Teach (Spec.Ed), Cert. IV Workplace Assessment & Training.
Professional work/interests: Legal & indigenous Interpreting.
Personal interests: My family, reading, walking, TV, website design & food!
Secretary: Bev Sloan

Bev lives in Perth, Western Australia and joined the National Executive Committee in 2009. She has worked as an interpreter since 1997.
Qualifications held: Post Grad Dip Auslan Interpreting,
Professional interests: Community interpreting, working with special interest groups (Mental health, legal settings, special needs and MLS clients).
Personal interests: Watching Sci-Fi, photography, cross-stitch & travelling.
Treasurer: Viona Woodroffe
Viona lives in Mildura, Victoria and joined the National Executive Committee in 2007. Viona has been a member of ASLIA since the first meeting in Adelaide in 1991.
Qualifications held: Postgraduate Diploma in Auslan Interpreting, Associate Diploma of Applied Social Sciences, Interpreting for the Deaf/ Hearing Impaired.
Professional interests: Interpreting in a regional setting and supporting interpreters living in a rural and/or remote area.
Personal interests: Camping and the great outdoors, spending time with my family and travelling.
Public Officer: Gerry Shearim

Gerry resides in Sydney, New South Wales and joined the National Executive Committee in 2007. She has practiced as an interpreter since 2001.
Qualifications held: Currently studying towards BA (Linguistics), Post Grad Dip Auslan Interpreting, Cert IV Workplace Training & Assessment, Dip of Interpreting.
Professional interests: Interpreting in the workplace, medical and tertiary education and enjoys the opportunity to work with Deaf Relay Interpreters and consumers who have Usher.
Personal interests: Anything social!
Minutes Secretary: Pip Cody

Pip currently resides in rural South Australia, and was co-opted to the position of minutes secretary in 2008. She has practised as an interpreter since 1993.
Qualifications held: BA, Grad Dip (Auslan - Interpreting), Grad Dip (Counselling and Human Services)
Professional Work/Interests: Interpreter education and on-going professional development, interpreting in the domains of education, mental health, and community interpreting.
Personal Interests: reading, aikido, archery, dancing, yoga, photography

Paul Heuston:
Paul is originally from Brisbane, but now resides in Melbourne. He has practised as an interpreter since 1988, and joined the ASLIA National Executive Committee in 2009.
Qualifications held: BA (Soc), LLB, Grad Dip (Legal Practice).
Professional work/interests: Conferences, corporate sector, International Sign/English interpreting, legal, national/international sports events, tertiary education, and theatre interpreting.
Personal interests: Photography, swimming, and travel.
ASLIA(National) Project Officer: Kylie Scott

In May 2009 ASLIA established a Secretariat position 2 days a week, filled by Kylie Scott. Kylie currently lives in Sydney after working in Darwin, Northern Territory for two and a half years for the National Auslan Booking & Payment Service (NABS). She has worked as an Auslan/English interpreter since 1997, and has served on ASLIA Victoria and ASLIA National boards.
