WELCOME TO AVLICAVLIC Mission Statement The Association Of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada
The Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada is a national professional association which represents interpreters whose working languages are English and American Sign Language (ASL). AVLIC represents its membership and advances the profession by promoting high standards within the profession of interpreting. Additionally, all members are to be afforded all the benefits of membership and to have opportunities for participation with the association, limited only by their interest, ability and performance. In all instances of representing and advancing the profession, the highest level of integrity is to be maintained by the AVLIC Board of Directors and its committee members with consumers, members and others. The Objectives of the Association are:
- To promote standardization and uniformity in the quality of interpreting services.
- To provide an open forum for discussion of issues pertinent to visual language interpreters and consumer groups
- To advocate and provide for professional development opportunities.
- To implement and co-ordinate accreditation of visual language interpreters.
- To encourage the development of programs designed to facilitate the education and training of potential interpreters
