ASLIA SA Closes and ASLIA National Conference to be re-scheduled to new venue

Dear members,

Please be advised that due to difficulties being experienced in South Australia, the SA branch of ASLIA has been forced to temporarily fold. There are a number of reasons for this sad decision, and we do wish the SA branch all the best in reforming at some point in the future - ASLIA National is keen to support the SA branch where possible in doing this and we have offered our assistance in this regard.

As the timing is now too short for any other branch to realistically take on the responsibility of coordinating and hosting a national conference later this year, the ASLIA National executive are presently discussing an alternative event to be held in a different location, however at the same time of year, as this  period of time may have already been set aside by many people in anticipation of the ASLIA National Conference.

On behalf of ASLIA (SA) and from the ASLIA National executive, we extend our apologies to any members who may have been inconvenienced by this change of plan. As noted, ASLIA National still anticipate an event taking place from 7-9  September 2007, albeit on a smaller scale, and we will keep you posted regarding developments.

We send our best wishes to practitioners in SA, and trust that they will remain ASLIA members, by joining neighbouring branches.

Thank you to our SA supporters and the SA committee and representatives for their work to date - operating a 'small' branch requires much energy and motivation from a small number of  people and we appreciate their efforts in recent years and look forward to renewed relationships in the future.

Kind regards,

Karen Bontempo ASLIA National President

There is a significant repercussion of this decision by ASLIA (SA), which impacts on the wider membership. ASLIA (SA) were the host branch of the 2007 ASLIA National Conference to  be held 7-9 September 2007 in Adelaide. Given the current state of affairs, the conference can no longer be hosted in Adelaide, and SA have formally withdrawn from hosting the event.
