An important consideration for all delegates considering attending the 

ITW and the ANC in Sydney from 7-9 September 2007 is that the APEC 

summit is on in Sydney at the same time. Due to the closure of the SA 

branch of ASLIA and their withdrawal from hosting the ANC this year, yet 

the dates already confirmed of 7-9 September 2007, in shifting the event 

to Sydney we have not been able to change the promoted dates. We were 

mindful that many people would have already saved the date and possibly 

made arrangements re: child care, leave from work and so on.

To this end, we want to clarify for all potential participants that 

security measures in  Sydney and possible delays in travel are likely 

during the event and delegates should bear this in mind when making 

their own arrangements. The airport will be operating in business as 

usual mode and rail services from the airport will still be in effect, 

but will operate on a public holiday timetable from 7-9 Sept. A relevant

and according to the official APEC site 

"Throughout the week parts of the city will operate under 'event time' 

traffic controls and access arrangements, similar to those in place 

during New Year's Eve, the annual City to Surf and the Sydney 2000 

Olympic Games. A detailed traffic and transport plan will be implemented 

throughout parts of the CBD by the NSW Police. Some short-term traffic 

disruption is expected and will include the closure of roads, the 

implementation of clearways and public transport diversions similar to 

those previously experienced during Sydney's large hallmark events. 

Every effort will be made to keep the CBD traffic flowing as smoothly as 

possible during this time. The APEC Australia 2007™ website will contain 

updated information and public announcements on all aspects of 'event 

time' arrangements."

A public holiday has been declared by the NSW Government for the Sydney 

region on Friday 7 September, and this may make movement a little 

easier. The APEC summit is being held in central Sydney and parts of the 

inner city will be closed to tourists/pedestrians/drivers etc, which is 

one of the reasons our event is being hosted out at Macquarie 

University, some distance from the city centre. This area should not be 

affected by the summit's presence.
