ASLIA Code of Conduct Policy & Agreement

Introduction:


The ASLIA Community comprises general members, members of the Executive Committee and National Representative Council.

It is expected that all the members of the Executive Committee and National Representative Council within the ASLIA Community will behave towards one another with integrity, fairness, impartiality and compassion and that they will perform their duties as efficiently and consciously as possible.

This Code of Conduct establishes standards of behaviour expected of ASLIA's Executive Members and the National Representative Council and is a guide to resolving ethical issues for those who work in the ASLIA Community.

While there are no set of rules capable of providing answers to all the ethical questions which arise, a code provides a framework for appropriate conduct in a variety of contexts.

ASLIA, through its association members, has responsibility for the integrity of accredited professionals and the conduct of their professional activities under the ASLIA Code of Ethics. As such, we are committed to maintaining the trust and respect of our members and the public at large through unquestionable integrity, honesty and ethical business conduct.

ASLIA members have a responsibility to uphold this dedication to the professions' Code of Ethics.

In addition to the requirements of conduct created by this code, an ASLIA member shall comply with applicable laws and regulations nationally.
It is therefore expected that members of the Executive Committee and National Representative Council within the ASLIA Community, have a responsibility to abide by the Code of Conduct agreement.


It is the policy of Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association INC that all National Executive and National Representative Council Members shall complete a Code of Conduct Agreement as a part of the Member's Agreement with the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association INC.

The key to the integrity of ASLIA lies with all of us, and is summarised in the following key principles:

  1. Personal Behaviour & Attitude
  2. Conflicts of Interest
  3. Acceptance of Gifts of Benefits
  4. Public Comment and the Use of Official Information:
  5. Use of Official facilities and Equipment
  6. Engagement with other organization
  7. Attendance and Punctuality
  8. Conclusion

This code of conduct may be changed or modified if need be by the Executive Committee at any time.
