ASLIA National Executive Committee
The ASLIA National Executive Committee are elected by ASLIA members and hold office for a period of two years. The committee comprises of members from most states and capital cities. All executive members are NAATI Professional Level Interpreters (formerly level 3) and have opted in to the NAATI Revalidation Process.
Individuals are elected on merit, and do not represent their home state at national level, nor do they represent national at state level.
All Executive Committee members work tirelessly on a voluntary basis.

Dr. Jemina Napier
President; Member of professional development, education, research & training portfolio.
Jemina resides in Sydney, New South Wales and joined the National board in 2002. She has practised as an interpreter since 1989.
Qualifications held: PhD, MEd, MA, BA (Hons) .
Professional work/interests: Conference interpreting, quality and consistency of interpreter education and assessment, research on interpreting and interpreting pedagogy.
Personal interests: Reading fiction, swimming, yoga, walking, movies, travel.

Marcel Leneham
Vice-President & Public Officer; Chair of "Professional Development, Education, Research & Training" portfolio.
Marcel resides in Sydney, New South Wales and joined the National board in 2004. He has practised as an interpreter since 1993.
Qualifications held/currently pursuing: BA(Hons), Dip Ed, MA, currently PhD candidate (Macquarie University).
Professional work/interests: Working in the following areas - education, translation, theatre/performance, sign-singing, legal, interpreter training and research.
Personal interests: visual art, theatre, cooking, travel, technophile (i.e., geek).

Karin Fayd'herbe
Secretary; Chair of publications and promotions portfolio; Member of special interests portfolio.
Karin resides in Cairns, Far North Queensland and joined the National board in 2004. She has practised as an interpreter since 1988.
Qualifications held: MA., B.Ed., B. Teach (Spec.Ed), Cert. IV Workplace Assessment & Training.
Professional work/interests: Legal & indigenous Interpreting.
Personal interests: My family, reading, walking, TV, website design & food!

Meredith Bartlett
Treasurer; Chair, Finance and Membership, Member of Special Interests portfolios
Meredith resides in Melbourne, Victoria and joined the National board in 1997. She has practised as an interpreter since 1982.
Qualifications held: MA, TTCTD, Dip of Tchg (Prim). PhD in progress.
Professional work/interests: Research in bilingualism in the Deaf community, Deafblind communication, Deaf Relay interpreting and training.
Personal interests: Deafblind support work, netball umpiring, reading, walking, travel.
Pip Cody
Minutes Secretary; Member of publications and promotions portfolio.
Pip currently resides in rural South Australia, and was co-opted to the position of minutes secretary in 2008. She has practised as an interpreter since 1993.
Qualifications held: BA, Grad Dip (Auslan - Interpreting), Grad Dip (Counselling and Human Services)
Professional Work/Interests: Interpreter education and on-going professional development, interpreting in the domains of education, mental health, and community interpreting.
Personal Interests: reading, aikido, archery, dancing, yoga, photography
Kylie Scott
Committee Member; member of Professional Development, Education, Research and Training Portfolio, and Special Interest Portfolio.
Kylie currently lives in Darwin, Northern Territory and joined the National Board in 2007. She has worked as an interpreter since 1997.
Qualifications held: Cert IV Training & Assessment, Adv Dip Interpreting & Translating, Dip of Interpreting.
Professional interests: Community interpreting, working with special interest groups (indigenous, Deafblind).
Personal interests: Reading, watching trashy television & travelling.

Gerry Shearim
Public Officer; Member of publications and promotions portfolio
Gerry resides in Sydney, New South Wales and joined the National Board in 2007. She has practiced as an interpreter since 2001.
Qualifications held: Currently studying towards BA (Linguistics), Post Grad Dip Auslan Interpreting, Cert IV Workplace Training & Assessment, Dip of Interpreting.
Professional interests: Interpreting in the workplace, medical and tertiary education and has a particular interest in working with Deaf Relay Interpreters and consumers who have Usher.
Personal interests: Anything social!, walking with her dog and the theatre.
At the 2007 ASLIA National Conference gala dinner Gerry became the inaugural winner of ASLIA's national 'Interpreter of the Year' award.

Viona Woodroffe
Committee; Chair of special interests portfolio, member of Membership & finance portfolio.
Viona lives in Mildura, Victoria and joined the National Board in 2007. Viona has been a member of ASLIA since the first meeting in Adelaide in 1991.
Qualifications held: Postgraduate Diploma in Auslan Interpreting, Associate Diploma of Applied Social Sciences, Interpreting for the Deaf/ Hearing Impaired.
Professional interests: Educational interpreting and access for Deaf students in a tertiary setting.
Personal interests: Camping and the great outdoors, spending time with my family and travelling.
