Current Interpreting FiguresAccredited Practioners:
Number of accredited practitioners in Auslan/English interpreting at 31 July 2006 are Paraprofessional = 678; Interpreter = 104 Research, as well as anecdotal evidence, seems to suggest approx. 250-300 of these currently work as interpreters. Unaccredited Practioners Unfortunately we don't have any accurate figures on unaccredited practitioners in the industry, however anecdotal evidence suggests the majority of these work in education settings (primary and secondary school most frequently as teacher aides/interpreters) which is of some concern to ASLIA.
