Workshop Summary: Demand Control Schema (DCS) is a framework that incorporates factors that interpreters need to consider to assist with ethical decision making and professional conduct within interpreting practice. This framework will be explained and applied to interpreting scenarios, including educational settings, with the opportunity for interpreters to consider their own experiences and upcoming interpreting assignments within this model.

Aim of the course: To provide a framework to enable interpreters to understand how the DC-S framework relates to their interpreting practise.

Outcomes: To articulate and apply the factors of the DC-S framework to all facets of their professional practise.

Benefits: Practitioners will have a tool to assist with decision making that ensures quality interpreting services are provided. NAATI recertification: 20 points (Industry engagement, category 2.21)

About the presenter: Julie Judd is a practising Auslan/English Conference Level (English to Auslan) interpreter, with over 30 years of experience in the field. Julie has delivered several workshops on this topic as well as providing diagnostic performance analysis of practitioners. “ I think the workshop was fantastic. There was a great mixture of lecture, group discussion and use of visual models. I also enjoyed the way the presenter asked us to think about DCS for an upcoming job. It made the workshop feel really personal.” Workshop participant
