ASLIA is hosting an online discussion group for Interpreters currently working in the broadcast media domain in Australia. Media conferences are now becoming more accessible with interpreters working during press conferences related to emergency events and the current COVID-19 pandemic. This discussion group is an invitation to interpreters currently working in this environment to share experiences and strategies.

The focus for this discussion group is Economics 101.

This online discussion group will be facilitated by Della Goswell.

NB: This is for current practising media interpreters in Australia only 

“Economics 101”.

Our presenter will be Graeme Wills, who holds a PhD in Economics, previous Associate Professor at UTAS and Reader at ANU. Graeme works currently as a private Economic Analyst.

Graeme plans to cover the following topics (time permitting)

1) Measurement of Economic Activity
-GDP & GSP (state)
2) Economic Fluctuations
– recessions
-contractions
-depressions
-forecasting issues eg consumer confidence
-labour & jobs/unemployment

3) National debt
Taxes and spending

Followed by Q&A
