Dear ASLIA members

This week, September 19-23 is International Week of the Deaf (IWD). First launched in Rome, Italy, in 1958, IWD takes place annually on the last week of September. A truly global event, IWD is the only week in a year that sees highly concerted global advocacy to raise awareness about the Deaf Community on different levels.

The theme this year is:
With Sign Language I Am Equal. This year we gather once again to commemorate the 10 year adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Person’s with Disabilities (CRPD), and acknowledge the recent adoption of the 2030 Agenda of the new Sustainable Development Goals.

Please join WFD, WASLI and Deaf communities around the globe to celebrate this week, sharing this message and supporting the cause. Attached is a poster of the key messages of IWD. Feel free to print it out and share it.

Happy International Week of the Deaf!
