- ASLIA collaborations. ASLIA is a not-for-profit organisation, which means we rely heavily on our committee members and our other volunteers to get the work done. Over many years, ASLIA has been able to achieve so much thanks to the efforts of our committees, the participation of our members, and our connections with other organisations. ASLIA's structure is based on three tiers, starting with state and territory groups who are connected into ASLIA National. ASLIA National falls under the umbrella of the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters, WASLI, at international level. That's very similar to the way that Deaf Australia has international connections with the World Federation of the Deaf. Because we are working with WASLI, we're not only focused on Australian interpreting, but also strongly connected with our Oceania region. In particular, working with Fiji in their local development role. We also work with other partners. In the deaf world, that includes Deaf Australia, the various deaf societies around Australia, and also Auslan interpreting service providers. We often combine our resources for PD and for workshops. We also partner with other organisations - both sign language and spoken language interpreter associations. In New Zealand, we work with SLIANZ, and in Australia, we collaborate with AUSIT who represent our spoken language peers. They cover the whole gamut of spoken languages in one organisation, not just one language like we do. We liaise closely with both SLIANZ and AUSIT, and sometimes combine training opportunities and workshops for our members. And of course, we also work closely with NAATI as our certification body. All those liaisons and collaborations help ASLIA do our work more effectively.
