WASLI Update
ASLIA congratulates Michelle Ashley on chairing a successful WASLI Conference in Paris which saw a record 506 delegates from 80 countries. An astounding number of interpreters, spoken and signed provided access for all these delegates and a large team of volunteers including members of the Australian Deaf community and members of ASLIA who gave up their time to ensure the conference ran seamlessly from registrations on the first day right through to the closing event.
Thank to everyone else who played a role in organising and running this very successful conference.
WASLI Board
ASLIA would like to acknowledge and thank outgoing president Debra Russell for her remarkable work throughout her 8 years of service to WASLI. ASLIA warmly welcomes Christopher Stone (UK) to the WASLI President position.
Congratulations are extended to Susan Emerson also a long serving ASLIA member who has been appointed as the incoming WASLI Vice President! Susan has previously contributed extensively as Treasurer on the WASLI board – thank you Susan for your continuing commitment. Appreciation is also extended to Jose Ednilson Junior who previously held the WASLI Vice President role. ASLIA welcomes the appointment of Nigel Howard (Canada) to the treasurer position and to Arunas Brazasinska to the Deaf Interpreter Advisor position previously held by Nigel.
ASLIA congratulates and welcomes Joneti Rokotuibau from FIJI in her new role as WASLIA Oceania Regional Representative. Thank you to Angela Murray (NZ) who did an outstanding job as the outgoing Oceania Representative and was instrumental in hosting the WASLI Oceania conference in FIJI last year.
ASLIA is looking forward to supporting Joneti in her new role and is looking forward to the work to be undertaken by the new WASLI Board.
See you all in South Korea 2023 for the next WASLI conference.
