For over 23 years I have been working within the finance and accounting sector with a heavy focus on the Not for Profit space, being a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) has allowed me to engage in a diverse range of roles which I thoroughly enjoy.

As Treasurer Assistant with ASLIA, I provide bookkeeping duties and financial assistance to the ASLIA Board, and our State Associations.

I hold the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Economics – University of South Australia
  • Bachelor of Accountancy – University of South Australia
  • Certified Practising Accountant – CPA Australia

  • NAATI Deaf Interpreter (Recognised) – with a focus on Deafblind

I look forward to working with ASLIA to ensure the financial sustainability of the Association for all our members.

Andrew Broom
Project Manager – Interpreter Awareness Training

I grew up in Tasmania and worked for 5½ years as an interpreter at the Claremont Project, a world-renown bilingual/bicultural school for Deaf and hearing students from pre-school to Year 12.

After moving to Melbourne in 2000, I continued working as an interpreter before taking a 15-year hiatus. In the meantime I worked in (mainly) not-for-profit organisations in roles such as employment consulting, Quality and Risk management, learning and development design, training and disability services management, before deciding (with some prompting!) to return to interpreting and teaching in 2018.

My role at ASLIA is to work in a project capacity to develop an Interpreter Awareness training package for businesses and the community.

I hold the following qualifications:

  • Certified Provisional Interpreter – NAATI
  • Dual Diploma in Vocational Education & Training/Design – NIET
  • Vocational Grad. Dip. of Community Sector Management – RMIT
  • Diploma of Quality Auditing – CWAV
  • Graduate Certificate of Management – Chisholm
  • Graduate Certificate of Human Resources – Chisholm
  • Towards a Better Life (Social Role Valorisation) – Belonging Matters
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid course – Mental Health First Aid Australia
  • Notetaking for people who are deaf or hard of hearing – Melbourne Polytechnic
  • DISC ADVANCED ® Accredited Consultant – DISC Profiles

I am extremely interested in developing the capacity of the community to be able to have genuine inclusion and access, as well as raising the profile of ASLIA, professional interpreting and the unique role it has. I look forward to meeting many of you!
