  Step behind the scenes and into the fast‑paced world of screen production. Lights, Camera, Action! is your chance to learn what really happens on film and TV sets — and what interpreters need to thrive in these dynamic, high‑pressure environments.

  Facilitated by Sam Martin — an award‑winning filmmaker, creative producer, researcher and consultant — this session brings insider knowledge directly to interpreters and students across Australia. Sam will be joined by special guests:

  • Natt Kull: a Certified Auslan English Interpreter with almost 20 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge around interpreting on set
  • Nathan Borg: an Australian Deaf actor, writer, and transport crew member with lived experience across multiple corners of the industry
  • Danni Wright: a Deaf Interpreter (CPDI), translator, teacher, consultant, performance artist, and actor passionate about integrated access.

  Together, they’ll unpack production workflows, on‑set etiquette, communication demands, and the unique role interpreters play in working with Deaf creatives in the film and TV industry.

  This PD includes presentations, interactive breakout sessions (adapted for the recording so those watching at home can still actively participate), and a panel discussion with questions from the live audience.

  Interpreter Safety and De-escalation Training

  Expression Australia and ASLITA VIC/TAS are proud to be partnering to deliver a free online training session open to all Expression Australia and ASLITA member interpreters – i.e. everyone!!!

  In many of the settings that interpreters work there is a risk of occupational violence.

  This interactive session will cover assessing an environment for safety risks, developing a personal safety plan, identifying possible triggers and signs of escalating aggression, and strategies for how to respond.
