Sheree Murray (ACT)

Interim President

Sheree is a Certified Interpreter from Canberra who qualified in 2014. Her passion is community! She came into the interpreting space wanting to be ‘that one more interpreter available’ so the Deaf Community didn’t have to miss out, as is often the case in her location.

In an effort to grow her network and to improve her skills, Sheree has completed the Graduate Diploma of Interpreting and Masters of Translating and Interpreting Studies at Macquarie University.

In her previous careers, Sheree has been a Science & Mathematics Teacher and also a Public Servant, working with the Australian Government. As a strong believer in the value of community, Sheree has always sought to give back to the communities where she participates. This has involved various committee and volunteers’ roles in several community-based groups over the years. To blow off steam, Sheree enjoys charging around the hockey field and coaching netball. Sheree has represented the ACT as a Director on the National board since 2017 and has spent time as both Secretary and now Treasurer.

Lauren is a Certified provisional interpreter in Brisbane, Queensland. Starting her Auslan journey in 2016, Lauren joined ASLIA Queensland to co-found P-Platers in 2021 and then joined the ASLITA executive team in 2024. Lauren is passionate about interpreter wellbeing and improving the profession of sign language interpreting in Australia. As a strong believer in higher education, Lauren enjoys interpreting in a range of settings including university, workshops and seminars. In her personal life, Lauren is avid admirer of art and nature. She can be found at the gallery, in the theatre, on a walk, in the library or her favourite place – home with a good book.

Britt is a practicing Certified Provisional Interpreter since 2023, and began getting involved with ASLITA as a student. Notoriously known for her pursuit of knowledge, Britt strives to make a difference in every space she involves herself in, with the goal of improving the practice and conditions for current and future interpreters to further benefit the Deaf community. When she’s not interpreting, you’ll find her in her art studio, in the library, or at any of the Deaf events happening in Boorloo (Perth).

Kate Grant (Vic)

Kate is an Auslan <> English Certified Provisional Interpreter who has been qualified since 2016. She enjoys working with the Deafblind community, sports clubs and interpreting in her local community of Geelong. Kate’s love of people and connection drew her into the field and she hasn’t looked back. More recently Kate has begun working as an interpreter trainer and is enjoying the new challenges and supporting future interpreters.

Kate has been involved with ASLITA Vic/Tas committee and the ASLITA National Conference 2024 organising committee. She is currently studying at Macquarie University working towards a Postgraduate Diploma of Auslan-English Interpreting. When Kate isn’t working you can find her gardening, cooking or eating.
