Description

Deaf people and Deaf organisations (including Deafblind people and their representatives) were amongst those who provided submissions and witness testimony to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission or DRC).

They told their stories about a lack of appropriately qualified interpreters at all stages of life, and about the audism they’ve experienced when encountering government and other services.

In response, the DRC Commissioners made a number of relevant recommendations. The Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments are at different stages of implementing these – and this work affects us as interpreters.

Come along and find out what to expect, particularly for people working in schools, and how you can support this important work.

The Interpreting in Educational Settings (IES) Committee will host this online professional development event on 19th November February 2026.

By viewing this PD, you will be enhancing your knowledge across Standards 1.4, 2.5, 3.2, 3.7 and 3.8 of the Professional Standards for Educational Interpreters.
