ASLITAQ 2025 P-Platers March
$0.00New Year, New P-Platers! Look who’s back, back again, for another year of ethical dilemmas, interpreting challenges and social chats, and this year, there’s the fantastic Emily Christofferson and Pauline Hansen (nah not that one) joining the team. This year the focus will be on those crazy things that pop up as you grow into your new skills and the difficulties interpreters face… this session will be about ethical dilemmas on the 12th of March 2025, from 630pm –730pm Qld time!
P-Platers is a social group for early career interpreters and soon-to-be NAATI certified provisional interpreters. This is a group for ASLITA members (including associate members) from any ASLITA state Association who:
- have completed their Diploma of Interpreting but are not yet certified, or
- are Certified Provisional Interpreters – CPI and CPDI
P-Platers is about peer social support, shared learning and professional networking opportunities such as:
- Share tips and tricks
- Discuss ethical quandaries
- Learn and benefit from other people’s experiences
- Ask those questions in a safe space
- Meet new people and build your professional networks
- Practice your skills
- Earn NAATI points
Cost: FREE
Sessions will be held on Zoom 630pm – 730pm QLD time. Upcoming dates TBA but see you April 2nd for the next one!

This year ASLITAQ will be providing Deaf Lens sessions at different times throughout the year (6pm – 6:30pm AEST) before our committee meeting agenda begins. This session is for our Deaf ASLITA members only as this space is where they’re able to offer their insights directly with the committee.
All members are welcome to join us online via Zoom on Thursday 27th February! Come and find out what’s happening within the ASLITAQ space and share your thoughts with us.

$0.00ASLITA (WA) in collaboration with Palliative Care WA and WA Primary Health Alliance are pleased to provide a professional development information session on advance care planning, palliative care and end of life choices to the Auslan Interpreter Industry in Western Australia.
This PD is open to interpreters and support workers that interact with clients in this space.
The session will be Auslan interpreted.
Lunch will be provided.

How do we ensure our work is truly accessible and meaningful when working with students with language deprivation?
In this expert-led session by Language First, we’ll explore evidence-based strategies to navigate the unique challenges of interpreting for students with language deprivation.
This recorded session will be presented live, allowing us to engage with the content together. Throughout the session, there will be opportunities for discussions, reflection, and practical application of key concepts.
Join us as we explore:
- The impact of language deprivation on learning
- Strategies for adapting interpretations to meet the needs of language-deprived students
- How to recognise and address gaps in language access
- Practical techniques for supporting student engagement and understanding
This session is a must for any educational interpreter working with Deaf students who have experienced delayed or disrupted language acquisition!
