ASLIA Interpreters- An Emerging Profession. 1990 – 2013 (NSW)
$40.00 – $75.00Please note: this event is open only to those who were Auslan/English or Deaf interpreters (this includes non-accredited interpreting) in either a paid or voluntary capacity between 1990 – 2013. Those who meet these criteria are invited to this weekend and to complete the online survey. ASLITA membership is not required for this event however your memory and stories are.
The “ASLIA Interpreters: An emerging profession 1990 – 2013” is a two-day event that will document the evolution of interpreting as a new profession throughout this period in the late 20th century. After the history, transition and growth of interpreting in the ’80s, it was realised more interpreters were needed and a strategy to grow interpreting numbers was to train people. This meant that courses needed to be developed. The history of this new emerging profession is not documented and seriously needs to be.
This weekend and the survey that ASLITA has developed is aimed at gathering this important historical information so it can be documented and a resource produced that can be utilised in future training courses. If you interpreted during the 80’s and continued or started in the ’90’s or the 2000’s, your information is needed! The survey can be done before or after the May 2024 weekend. Coming to the weekend and hearing the presentations and about the events that took place may well remind you of more of your history. There will also be a dinner on Saturday night and plenty of opportunities to reconnect with friends and colleagues. The face-to-face event will be filmed, and a highlights’ video will be available online for purchase at a later date.
Stay tuned for who the guest speakers will be on this weekend.
