ASLITAQ – 2025 Mock Magistrate Court Southport
$160.00 (member price: $80.00)ASLITAQ is excited to be partnering with the Department of Justice Queensland Court Services to provide mock court training for Auslan-English and Deaf Interpreters.
This session follows on from the online Introduction sessions. This Intermediate Session is an introduction to the Queensland Criminal Courts Jurisdictions including mock court participation. This Introduction will also include terminology, how a matter gets to court and most importantly Court Protocols and expectations of an interpreter in Court. You may be required to read scripts and undertake varying roles within the courts such as a Magistrate, Prosecutor, Defence Council and Defendant as well as using your skills to interpret along the way.
Auslan-English interpreters will be provided.
Date: Saturday 30th Aug 2025

Venue: Southport Magistrates Court. Davenport St & Hinze Street, Southport, Court Room 8.
**Participants to wait out front of building to be brought in all at one with security. Participants must arrive by 8:45am.**

This month the focus will be on those things that you need to keep in mind as you progress through your interpreting career – TBA
P-Platers is a social group for early career interpreters and soon-to-be NAATI certified provisional interpreters. This is a group for ASLITA members (including associate members) from any ASLITA state Association who:
- have completed their Diploma of Interpreting but are not yet certified, or
- are Certified Provisional Interpreters – CPI and CPDI
P-Platers is about peer social support, shared learning and professional networking opportunities such as:
- Share tips and tricks
- Discuss ethical quandaries
- Learn and benefit from other people’s experiences
- Ask those questions in a safe space
- Meet new people and build your professional networks
- Practice your skills
- Earn NAATI points
Cost: FREE
