Social in the Valley: WA Terp & Deaf Community Networking Event

Join us for an afternoon of networking and connection with interpreters, Deaf community members, students, and support workers. It’s a great chance to build relationships, share experiences, and strengthen professional and community links in Perth with a relaxed, social setting.
We’ll also be running a cash raffle fundraiser to support a Perth attendee’s trip to the WFDYS Children’s Camp — any cash contributions are appreciated!

Team Interpreting PD

Following on from her presentation at ANC2024, Dr Kirri Dangerfield will be facilitating an interactive session diving into the conversation starters of creating a super interpreting team and offers handy hints in striving to make teamwork effortless.
Fed up with talking about the weather with your interpreting co-workers on the job? Let’s together find some handy conversation starters to really get to know each others’ working styles and supports while working together. Approach this session with honesty and with genuine curiosity about our collective interpreting skills and knowledge.
Hearing, Deaf and Student interpreters will all benefit from this session.
Join us at 6:30pm-8pm on Zoom for an interactive evening with colleagues. Meeting link will be sent out on 21st May.

Look who’s back, back again, for another year of ethical dilemmas, interpreting challenges and social chats, and this year, there’s the fantastic Emily, Pauline and Sab joining the team. This month the focus will be on those things that you need to keep in mind as you progress through your interpreting career – working with a co-terp and networking.
P-Platers is a social group for early career interpreters and soon-to-be NAATI certified provisional interpreters. This is a group for ASLITA members (including associate members) from any ASLITA state Association who:
- have completed their Diploma of Interpreting but are not yet certified, or
- are Certified Provisional Interpreters – CPI and CPDI
P-Platers is about peer social support, shared learning and professional networking opportunities such as:
- Share tips and tricks
- Discuss ethical quandaries
- Learn and benefit from other people’s experiences
- Ask those questions in a safe space
- Meet new people and build your professional networks
- Practice your skills
- Earn NAATI points
Cost: FREE
Sessions will be held on Zoom 630pm – 730pm QLD time. Upcoming dates 08/10/2025, 12/11/2025

Deaf Lens session plus General Meeting
This year ASLITAQ will be providing Deaf Lens sessions at different times throughout the year (6pm – 6:30pm AEST) before our committee meeting agenda begins. This session is for our Deaf ASLITA members only as this space is where they’re able to offer their insights directly with the committee.
